Expedition Update

Expedition Update

It is already November, which means the celebration of learning is quickly approaching! The students have just begun research for their final product, a writing piece and accompanying picture on a person or event related to human rights. Your students are going to become experts on their topic, so be prepared for them to come home ready to share the new information they have learned!

We have also been working our way through the novels Esperanza Rising or Any Small Goodness. It has been exciting to watch your students make connections between the novels and what they have learned about in expedition.

Your students are looking forward to sharing some of this new learning with you during the Celebration of Learning next month!

It seems as if the first quarter of school has flown by! Your students have been hard at work deepening their knowledge about human rights. Right before fall break, students worked to create a public service announcement on one of the rights outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Students learned about high quality work and the power of an image and paraphrase as they created their posters. These posters will serve as a reminder to students as they explore real human rights stories and challenges to human rights in the novels Esperanza Rising and Any Small Goodness.

Human Rights: Keeping the Promise

Human Rights
    Keeping the         Promise
Students have been hard at work over the past month trying to figure out the answer to the question "What are human rights?" Over the past few days, your child worked with a team to create posters about an article from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Today, we did a gallery walk where the
students were able to see the posters created by their fellow classmates. Stay tuned as we continue to explore the Universal Declaration of Human Rights!
